Eeek! This is one of my favorite candies at Easter so I was ecstatic when I stumbled on to this protein shake recipe! YUM! That chocolate shell with the gooey, sugary inside. It’s SO good…and also so not within my diet. This Cadbury Egg Protein Shake fills my craving, let’s me have the egg without over doing it and gives me some necessary nutrition.

The delectable Cadbury Egg got its start back in the 19th century in Birmingham, England when a small shop owner wanted to make a better drinking chocolate and stumbled into something else. Who knew??? When John Cadbury opened his shop in 1824, he sold beverages like tea, coffee, and drinking chocolate. In 1831, he and his brother opened a cocoa factory to improve their product.

Cadbury’s competitor, Joseph Fry began selling moldable chocolate bars, prompting Cadbury to up his game. In 1875, he created the first sugar-filled chocolate egg. Around 1919 to the competitors joined forces and created the first cream filled eggs. Yum! However, those first eggs were nothing like the Cadbury Crème Eggs of today. Those didn’t emerge until 1963 and first appeared as Fry’s Crème Eggs. The name was changed in 1971. Following a blockbuster advertising campaign in 1985, Cadbury Eggs began being produced around the world. In the United States, Hershey has marketing rights.
